Affirming Our Commitment

Today, President Trump has decided to revoke protection against deportation for undocumented young people, also known as Dreamers, who registered with the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.  We know that this decision by President Trump affects our students, colleagues, and their families as well as our partners in community, creating hardship, anxiety, and cruel separation.

At this time, the McCarthy Center reaffirms its commitment to creating inclusive space in all our programs for every student at the University of San Francisco, documented and undocumented. We know that the McCarthy Center and the University of San Francisco is a powerful environment for learning because of the diversity of students here.  That diversity includes those who are citizens of this country and those who have grown up in the United States without citizenship status, those who were born in the United States and those who were not.

You can find more information, including four concrete steps you can take to support DACA students here. We will continue to post information about DACA and what it means for students, particularly those who have registered with DACA. We will also post information about how you can make your voice heard in response to this decision.

We offer support and respect for all our students and ask that, at this uncertain time, all of us extend that support and respect in particular for our DACA colleagues and classmates.
